Biofuel Swap: choose a sustainable fuel for auto transport

Transporting-Wheels-2-scaled (2)
It’s widely perceived that the transport sector and fossil fuels are tightly linked. In our industry, diesel-powered automobile transport trucks remain the standard. At TransConnect, we believe that HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) is a vital diesel replacement to make the transport industry more sustainable. That’s why, as of November 1, 2024, we are introducing the Biofuel Swap. This new program offers our customers the chance to share in the responsibility and invest in cleaner fuel options for automobile transport.

HVO: Biodiesel with reduced CO₂ emissions

Our commitment to reducing CO₂ emissions drives us to prioritize the use of HVO biodiesel, a greener alternative to conventional diesel. This fuel is produced by treating vegetable oils and fats with hydrogen. For the Biofuel Swap HVO100 is used, which means that the fuel is made from 100% renewable raw materials. From production through combustion, HVO emits 80-90% less CO₂ compared to fossil fuels.

The benefits of HVO

  • Sustainable origins: HVO is made from organic waste or leftover materials from renewable sources, like used cooking oil or vegetable oils.
  • Cleaner combustion: HVO burns more cleanly than traditional diesel, emitting significantly less soot and fewer harmful pollutants.
  • Efficiency gains: HVO ignites more readily than fossil diesel. This leads to cleaner and more efficient combustion, which reduces fuel consumption per transport.

How does the Biofuel Swap work?

Switching all transport immediately to biofuel would be ideal, but it’s not yet practical everywhere in Europe due to limited availability. That’s why TransConnect has partnered with FincoEnergies to offer the Biofuel Swap. This program lets you directly support the use of sustainable biodiesel (HVO), even when our carrier isn’t using it yet.

Here’s how it works, step by step:

  1. Choose the Biofuel Swap when ordering
When you place an order with TransConnect, simply select the “Biofuel Swap” option to offset the estimated CO₂ emissions used for your transport.

  2. Pay a small additional fee
This fee covers the price difference between fossil diesel and HVO100. It ensures your contribution directly supports the purchase of sustainable fuel.

  3. Equivalent HVO is added to the Dutch fuel network
FincoEnergies manages the integration of this biodiesel. For every litre of diesel you offset, an equivalent amount of HVO is supplied into the Dutch fuel distribution system. This system-wide approach ensures that the total fuel mix becomes greener, even if the truck transporting your car doesn’t use biofuel itself.

  4. Impact without operational changes
Our transport partners can continue operating as fast as usual, but your contribution ensures that fossil diesel is replaced with certified, lower-emission biodiesel somewhere in the Dutch network. It’s an immediate, practical way to reduce your carbon footprint by more than 85%.

  5. Receive an official certificate
After participating, you’ll receive a quarterly certificate confirming your contribution and corresponding CO₂ reduction. The HVO supplied by FincoEnergies is ISCC-certified, compliant with RED II and Annex IX regulations, meaning it meets strict sustainability standards and the process of adding the ordered amount of biofuel to the Dutch fuel system is independently audited by EY.
