Biofuel Swap: choose a greener fuel for auto transport

Transporting-Wheels-2-scaled (2)
It’s widely perceived that the transport sector and fossil fuels are tightly linked. In our industry, diesel-powered automobile transport trucks remain the standard. At TransConnect, we believe that HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) is a vital diesel replacement to make the transport industry more sustainable. That’s why, as of November 1, 2024, we are introducing the Biofuel Swap. This new program offers our customers the chance to share in the responsibility and invest in cleaner fuel options for automobile transport.

HVO: Biodiesel with reduced CO₂ emissions

Our commitment to reducing CO₂ emissions drives us to prioritize the use of HVO biodiesel, a greener alternative to conventional diesel. This fuel is produced by treating vegetable oils and fats with hydrogen. From production through combustion, HVO emits 80-90% less CO₂ compared to fossil fuels.

The benefits of HVO

  • Sustainable origins: HVO is made from organic waste or leftover materials from renewable sources, like used cooking oil or vegetable oils. The plants from which these originate absorb CO₂ as they grow, offsetting the emissions from the fuel. This makes HVO a more sustainable fuel option compared to traditional fossil fuels.
  • Cleaner combustion: HVO burns more cleanly than traditional diesel, emitting significantly less soot and fewer harmful pollutants.
  • Efficiency gains: HVO ignites more readily than fossil diesel. This leads to cleaner and more efficient combustion, which reduces fuel consumption per transport.

How does the Biofuel Swap work?

Our ideal scenario would be for all our transport partners to immediately switch to HVO, but that’s currently not possible, as HVO isn’t available across all of Europe. For this reason, we’ve partnered with Goodfuels to launch the Biofuel Swap. Although not every fuel source is yet 100% HVO, your contribution goes directly toward the production of this biodiesel. The more HVO we adopt, the greater the long-term benefits are for everyone. Here’s how it works:
  • When placing an order with TransConnect, you can choose to offset the estimated diesel used during transport with HVO by checking the “Biofuel Swap” option.
  • For a small additional fee (covering the price difference between HVO and regular diesel), the equivalent estimated amount of HVO will be added to the Dutch fuel network managed by FincoEnergies. This means your full contribution goes toward purchasing HVO, which is then added to the fuel system in the Netherlands.
  • Your transport provider doesn’t need to use biodiesel directly, but your contribution ensures that a corresponding amount of carbon-neutral fuel is consumed instead of fossil diesel.
  • Goodfuels’ HVO is ISCC certified, meeting strict sustainability standards and audited continuously by independent regulators.

Spot filling: enhancing efficiency in auto transport

Alongside the Biofuel Swap, we’re committed to further reducing the environmental impact of transport by making our partner routes as efficient as possible. By using spot filling, we minimize empty space during transport runs, maximizing load efficiency and reducing fuel consumption. Through innovative solutions like the Biofuel Swap and reducing empty mileage, we’re demonstrating our commitment to a more sustainable future in auto transport.
